The Modernist solution for a factory Plan is based upon efficiency. Efficiency that is itself based upon units in and units out. Raw materials turned into product in the least amount of paid hours. Subjective values like creativity, design, or quality are inferior to cost per production per unit, the bottom line is valued above all else. These factories perform at their most efficient when generating large amounts of products. It is economy of scales, if the units can be manufactured at a certain profit then more units equal more profits. But this system is rigid and when drastic changes in economy or supply occur this process is not able to easily cope or adjust. This project proposes a splicing and blending of disparate programs. And these new adjacencies will produce not only Novel Architecture but Novel Production methods and interactions. The designer and the machinist will no longer occupy such different places within the context of the production loop. By problematizing the heterotopia of the factory floor and creating new relationships a more creative production process can arise.The use of the vignette |vin’yet|a brief evocative description, account, or episode.) as an architectural strategy refers back to the splice. The vignette can be used to express an evocative or intense moment in the project. The Vignette is also used in film to fill in backstory or give insight into the essential character of a person or scene. In this way it is a touchstone for the arc of the story, something to be remembered and associated to the rest of the narrative. The splice is also used in experimental film to attach seemingly disparate events into a continuous narrative. The viewer then reassembles the images into a continuous story. In a similar way seemingly disparate elements of this proposal are attached together and the user assembles local connections.
